“Bubblegum Geisha” by R

March 18, 2015

It’s not often in the creation of an original work of art that I take on the role of the muse, normally I’m looking for the spirit of the muse to move through me to help with the “old making stuff lark”. That being said, I’m delighted that R have been inspired enough by my work to craft this wonderful song.

“Bubblegum Geisha”, 2009 – Paper collage and gold leaf on Canson Montval 300gm watercolour paper, 24 x 20 inches (unavailable)

R’s “Bubblegum Geisha” is a follow-up to their incredible/uplifting/powerful breakthrough single “Change”.

Best of luck with it and all of your other projects lads!

Painting today

July 30, 2011

So I’m currently having a war of attrition with some half-started paintings. Here are some artists who are pushing the art form forward whilst I’m stalling…

Alex Kanevsky

Nicholas Samorì

Adrian Ghenie

Nancy Grossman

(Honourable mention as she’s not a painter, but a proper multi-disciplinary artist)

Tomokazu Matsuyama

March 13, 2011

I just came across the work of Tomokazu Matsuyama, and it really resonated with me. I really think that he’s at the forefront of painting at the moment.

Cambridge Drawing Society Carter Jonas Prize 2010

October 26, 2010

I’m exhibiting alongside the members of the Cambridge Drawing Society as part of their Autumn 2010 exhibition this week. The venue is the Old Gym at the Leys School in CB2 (which isn’t actually a gym – it’s an impressive Victorian hall that used to be the Art School). The exhibition continues from 24th – 30th October and is open every day from 10 am – 4 pm.

I’m also very pleased to say that I won this years Carter Jonas prize for a young artist for my 2010 painting “Imploder”. My cohorts in the competition were really, really top notch artists so I was doubly pleased to win it.
